Job Overview

Ceredigion County Council is seeking a Support Assistant – Decontamination, Cleaning & Relief Technician to support the Integrated Community Equipment Service.

The role focuses on cleaning and decontaminating community equipment that has been used in the community, ensuring items are safe for staff handling and future use. The service supports vulnerable people and operates jointly with Hywel Dda University Health Board.

The successful candidate will clean, disinfect and where required sterilise returned equipment, maintain a safe and hygienic warehouse environment, manage stock records, label and categorise equipment, identify damaged items and support delivery drivers when service levels require. The job description confirms the role involves decontaminating equipment such as profiling beds, riser recliner chairs, commodes, shower chairs and mobility hoists, alongside warehouse, stock, delivery and record-keeping duties.

This role requires relevant experience in cleaning and hygiene services and experience in a warehouse, delivery or equivalent environment.

You must hold a full clean UK driving licence, have good awareness of Health & Safety, COSHH and infection prevention controls, and be comfortable handling, cleaning and moving community care equipment.

Candidates without cleaning/hygiene experience, warehouse or delivery experience, and a clean UK driving licence are unlikely to be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and decontaminate returned community equipment
  • Carry out cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation processes where required
  • Disassemble and thoroughly clean equipment in line with manufacturer instructions
  • Follow infection control policies and decontamination guidance
  • Maintain cleanliness of the stores and decontamination area
  • Safely manage cleaning products and chemicals in line with COSHH
  • Use appropriate PPE including gloves, aprons and facial protection where required
  • Monitor cleaning material stock and order supplies when needed
  • Support stock takes within the decontamination unit
  • Check equipment for damage, wear and tear
  • Label, categorise and store returned equipment correctly
  • Maintain accurate stock records using the warehouse management system
  • Support daily warehouse cleaning and maintenance
  • Load and unload delivery vehicles by hand or using lifting equipment
  • Support relief delivery duties to service users when needed
  • Operate pallet trolleys or pallet stackers where trained
  • Communicate professionally with colleagues, clinical staff and service users
  • Keep accurate delivery records and submit documentation on time
  • Follow manual handling, health and safety and risk assessment procedures
  • Keep vehicles clean, fuelled and ready for use where driving duties are required

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Relevant experience in cleaning and hygiene services
  • Relevant experience in a warehouse, delivery or similar environment
  • Full clean UK driving licence
  • GCSE-level education including Maths and English, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Ability to understand written instructions, chemical labels and work schedules
  • Good basic IT skills and ability to use electronic devices
  • Good communication skills with colleagues, clinical staff and service users
  • Good awareness of Health & Safety requirements
  • Good awareness of COSHH
  • Good awareness of infection prevention and control procedures
  • Ability to work accurately to established procedures
  • Team player with a flexible approach to work
  • Ability to take direction from managers
  • Good knowledge of Ceredigion geography and road layout
  • Motivated to deliver high standards of hygiene and cleanliness

Desirable

  • Experience of warehouse operations
  • Experience in logistics
  • Experience operating a forklift, electric lift, pallet stacker or pallet trolley
  • Welsh language skills, or willingness to develop Welsh language skills within the required timescale

Additional Information

The successful candidate will need to complete required training, which may include Ceredigion Driver Assessment Training, workplace Health & Safety, COSHH, manual handling, workplace first aid and IT record-keeping training.
