Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 15:30
Friday: 07:30 – 15:00
Rostered shifts may include weekends, Bank Holidays and extra-statutory days.

Job Overview
Newport City Council is seeking a Street Cleansing Operative to support contractual street cleansing and refuse collection duties within the Waste Management service.
The role will involve completing daily street cleansing tasks in line with route schedules and contract requirements, supporting refuse collection duties when directed, working outdoors in all weather conditions, wearing Council-issued PPE and maintaining safe working practices at all times.
This is a hands-on outdoor role requiring stamina, reliability, good customer care skills, knowledge of the Newport area and experience within refuse, cleansing, street services or similar manual operational work.

This role requires experience in refuse, cleansing, street services or similar outdoor manual work.
You must be comfortable with considerable walking, bending, lifting and carrying, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and working rostered shifts including weekends and Bank Holidays where required.
A current full UK driving licence is desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day street cleansing duties
- Complete cleansing tasks in line with route schedules
- Support contractual street cleansing requirements
- Assist with refuse collection duties when directed
- Wear Council-issued uniform, protective clothing and footwear
- Follow health and safety regulations at all times
- Take reasonable care of your own safety and others' safety
- Report incidents, accidents, faults and hazards
- Attend training courses when instructed
- Work under the direction of supervisors and managers
- Work to targets and deadlines
- Identify priorities and manage own workload
- Provide good customer care when dealing with members of the public
- Promote a positive image of Newport City Council
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Support rostered shifts, including weekends and Bank Holidays where required
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience working in refuse, cleansing, street services or similar manual outdoor work
- Knowledge of the Newport City area
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to work to targets and deadlines
- Ability to identify priorities and manage own work
- Good customer care skills
- Stamina for walking, bending, lifting and carrying
- Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to work rostered shifts, including weekends and Bank Holidays

Desirable
- Current full UK driving licence
- Previous public sector experience
- Previous local authority street cleansing or refuse collection experience
