Job Overview
Lambeth Council is seeking an experienced PRS Lettings Negotiator to join the Housing Needs team.
The role focuses on securing private rented sector accommodation to help meet housing demand and support homelessness prevention and relief cases. You will negotiate directly with landlords and letting agents to procure suitable properties and ensure that residents are supported throughout the tenancy process.
The postholder will play a key role in increasing the supply of affordable private rented accommodation while providing guidance and support to tenants moving into the private rented sector.
Key Responsibilities

Secure private rented accommodation through negotiation with landlords and agents

Generate property leads through landlord engagement, networking and cold calling

Carry out property inspections to assess suitability, condition and safety standards

Support prospective tenants by matching them with suitable properties

Provide tenants with advice on tenancy responsibilities, Universal Credit and housing benefits

Organise property viewings and accompany tenants where required

Maintain accurate records of landlord contacts, properties and tenancy arrangements

Work closely with Housing Advisors to assess tenant suitability for private renting

Support homelessness prevention, relief cases and move-on from temporary accommodation

Attend landlord forums, recruitment events and partnership meetings to promote the councils private renting scheme

Ensure all activities comply with council procedures, financial regulations and housing legislation
Essential Experience & Skills
-
Experience working within a housing or homelessness service
-
Knowledge of housing legislation, housing advice and homelessness prevention

Experience negotiating with landlords or managing private rented sector properties

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
-
Experience working in a target-driven or performance-focused environment
-
Ability to manage a caseload and maintain accurate records using IT systems

Experience providing advice and guidance to members of the public
Desirable

Experience working within a local authority housing needs or PRS procurement team

Knowledge of housing benefits and Universal Credit processes

Experience conducting property inspections
