Job Overview
The Royal Borough of Greenwich is seeking a Community Engagement Officer to support community and stakeholder engagement activity linked to the Selective Licensing Scheme.
The role will involve supporting the planning, delivery and monitoring of engagement events, public meetings, forums, focus groups and consultations. The successful candidate will work with residents, community organisations, third sector partners, internal council teams and other stakeholders to ensure engagement activity is accessible, well-managed, inclusive and delivered within agreed timeframes.
This role requires someone with strong community engagement experience, excellent communication skills, the ability to build relationships with diverse communities and stakeholders, and confidence supporting both face-to-face and online engagement activity. The job description confirms the postholder will support community/stakeholder engagement events, develop meetings and focus groups, involve hard-to-reach groups, support engagement materials and maintain engagement logs and reporting.

This role requires experience in community engagement, stakeholder engagement, public consultation, resident engagement or communications activity.
You must be confident organising engagement events, working with community groups, supporting consultation activity, producing clear engagement materials and maintaining accurate monitoring records.
Candidates without relevant community engagement, stakeholder engagement, consultation or public sector communications experience are unlikely to be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the organisation and delivery of community and stakeholder engagement events
- Ensure engagement events are well managed, well attended and delivered on time
- Support colleagues across the council with engagement plans and activity
- Research, develop and facilitate public meetings, forums and focus groups
- Support both face-to-face and online engagement activity
- Help community organisations and partners participate in engagement and consultation activity
- Develop and implement involvement initiatives using a range of engagement methods
- Support engagement with hard-to-reach groups and suggest improvements
- Build strong relationships with Greenwich organisations, community groups, charities and third sector partners
- Support co-design activity where appropriate
- Support the creation of clear engagement materials for communities and stakeholders
- Help develop events that maximise engagement opportunities
- Propose new community engagement events aligned to council priorities
- Complete administration, reporting, monitoring and data management for engagement activity
- Maintain an engagement log of all activity
- Contribute to the annual engagement and consultation forward plan
- Attend project, activity and team meetings
- Work in line with the council's community engagement framework, strategy and annual plan
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience in community engagement, stakeholder engagement or public consultation
- Experience organising or supporting engagement events, forums or public meetings
- Ability to engage with residents, community groups and third sector organisations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to create clear, accessible engagement materials
- Ability to support engagement with hard-to-reach or underrepresented communities
- Strong relationship-building skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Good administration, reporting and data management skills
- Ability to maintain accurate engagement logs and monitoring records
- Understanding of inclusive community engagement principles
- Confidence supporting both face-to-face and online activity
- Ability to work to agreed deadlines and quality standards
- Degree or equivalent level of experience
Desirable
- Previous local authority or public sector engagement experience
- Experience supporting housing, licensing, regeneration or community consultation projects
- Experience working with diverse communities in Greenwich or similar boroughs
- Experience using non-traditional engagement methods
- Experience supporting co-design activity

This role requires an Enhanced DBS.
The order requires a degree or equivalent level of experience. The contract runs from 28 June 2026 to 13 December 2026, and the candidate submission deadline is 21 June 2026 at 17:00.
