Job Overview

Camden Facilities Management is seeking an experienced Multi-Skilled Building Services Engineer with a strong commercial plumbing and mechanical maintenance background.

The successful candidate will carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, fault-finding and minor installation works across Camden's schools, children's centres, community buildings and corporate properties.

Although the role has a plumbing and mechanical bias, candidates should have enough awareness of electrical building services to work safely, identify basic faults and understand when specialist electrical assistance is required.

A significant part of the role will involve working alongside and mentoring a plumbing apprentice for approximately three days each week. The engineer must be willing and able to explain tasks, model safe working practices, check the apprentice's work and support their technical development.

This is a commercial plumbing / mechanical building services engineer role.

Candidates must hold NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or an equivalent recognised qualification in plumbing, mechanical engineering or building services.

Candidates must have substantial practical experience in commercial plumbing and mechanical maintenance, including heating systems, pumps, pressurisation units, expansion vessels, calorifiers, booster sets, valves, TMVs, hot and cold-water services and associated plant.

The role is van-mobile and requires a full UK driving licence.

Candidates must also be willing and able to mentor a plumbing apprentice for approximately three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance across mechanical and plumbing systems
Complete reactive repairs and fault-finding
Undertake minor mechanical installation and remedial works
Complete mechanical and plumbing PPMs within required timescales
Diagnose and repair faults affecting commercial plumbing systems
Diagnose and repair faults affecting heating and mechanical systems
Maintain pumps and pressurisation units
Maintain expansion vessels and calorifiers
Maintain booster sets, valves and associated plant
Repair domestic hot and cold-water services
Service TMVs where competent
Support water hygiene and Legionella control activities within competence
Identify underlying causes of faults
Recommend remedial action to reduce repeat failures
Record work accurately using Camden's CAFM system
Use issued mobile technology to update jobs live while attending sites
Record materials, findings, actions and completion details
Provide clear notes explaining inspections, findings, actions taken and further works required
Manage and prioritise allocated workload
Complete PPMs and reactive jobs effectively
Communicate professionally with school staff, caretakers, building users, contractors and colleagues
Complete dynamic risk assessments
Follow permit-to-work and site safety procedures
Maintain the work vehicle, tools and equipment appropriately
Support colleagues across the wider M&E team where competent
Mentor and support the assigned plumbing apprentice
Explain tasks and model safe working practices
Check the apprentice's work and support technical development

Essential Experience & Qualifications

NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent recognised qualification in plumbing, mechanical engineering or building services
Substantial practical experience in commercial plumbing maintenance
Substantial practical experience in mechanical maintenance
Experience maintaining heating systems
Experience maintaining pumps
Experience maintaining pressurisation units
Experience maintaining expansion vessels
Experience maintaining calorifiers
Experience maintaining booster sets, valves and associated plant
Experience repairing domestic hot and cold-water services
Experience delivering planned preventative maintenance
Experience delivering reactive maintenance
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
Experience working independently in occupied buildings
Full UK driving licence
Ability and willingness to mentor an apprentice
Competence using mobile devices or CAFM systems
Ability to maintain accurate job records
Ability to work safely and within technical competence
Awareness of electrical building services
Ability to identify when specialist electrical assistance is required
