Job Overview
Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Parking Compliance Officer to support the inspection and maintenance of on-street parking enforcement infrastructure across the borough.
The role will focus on ensuring that parking enforcement road markings and associated signage are maintained to a high standard and remain compliant with Traffic Management Orders, the Road Traffic Act, TSRGD and other relevant legislation.
The successful candidate will inspect on-street infrastructure, monitor contractors and maintenance teams, supervise works programmes, interpret maps and digital mapping systems, and provide professional advice and reports to support effective parking enforcement.

This role requires a strong understanding of parking legislation, including the Road Traffic Act and TSRGD.
You must be able to interpret Traffic Management Orders, maps and digital mapping systems, and have experience carrying out on-street inspections in different weather conditions.
A full clean manual driving licence is essential.
Candidates without relevant parking compliance, parking infrastructure, highways, road markings/signage or on-street inspection experience are unlikely to be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect on-street parking enforcement infrastructure across the borough
- Check parking road markings and associated signage
- Ensure parking infrastructure complies with Traffic Management Orders and legislation
- Identify defective, missing or non-compliant road markings and signage
- Manage and monitor contractors and maintenance teams
- Supervise parking-related works programmes
- Provide professional advice to support effective parking enforcement
- Produce clear reports and inspection records
- Interpret Traffic Management Orders, maps and digital mapping systems
- Prioritise work under pressure and make sound operational decisions
- Liaise with internal teams, contractors and other stakeholders
- Support the maintenance of accurate parking enforcement records
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Essential Experience & Skills
- Strong understanding of parking legislation
- Knowledge of the Road Traffic Act and TSRGD
- Ability to interpret Traffic Management Orders
- Ability to use maps and digital mapping systems
- Experience carrying out on-street inspections
- Experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to produce clear reports and advice
- Ability to prioritise workload under pressure
- Ability to make sound decisions
- Confidence dealing with contractors and maintenance teams
- Good attention to detail
- Full clean manual driving licence
Desirable
- Previous local authority parking compliance experience
- Experience with parking enforcement infrastructure
- Experience supervising works programmes
- Knowledge of road markings, signage and highway compliance
- Experience working with contractors in a highways, parking or transport environment
