Job Overview

Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a General Labourer / Cleaner to support the Building Maintenance Voids Team.

The role will involve carrying out general labouring and cleaning duties within empty properties, supporting void works, clearing properties, removing waste or unwanted items, and assisting with general building labour tasks.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone reliable, practical and comfortable working in empty properties as part of a building maintenance or voids team.

This role involves void property cleaning, property clearance and general building labouring.

You must be comfortable clearing empty properties, carrying out cleaning duties, supporting basic building maintenance work and working as part of a manual operational team.

Candidates who are not comfortable with physical labour, cleaning and property clearance duties are unlikely to be suitable.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general labouring duties within empty properties
• Clean and clear void properties
• Remove waste, unwanted items and general debris
• Support the Building Maintenance Voids Team
• Assist trades or maintenance staff where required
• Carry out basic manual handling duties
• Keep work areas clean, tidy and safe
• Follow instructions from supervisors and team members
• Work safely in empty properties and building maintenance environments
• Report hazards, defects or issues as required
• Follow health and safety procedures at all times
• Support general building labour tasks as needed

Essential Experience & Skills

• Experience in general labouring, cleaning, property clearance, voids, building maintenance or similar manual work
• Comfortable carrying out physical work
• Able to clean and clear empty properties
• Able to work safely in building maintenance environments
• Good reliability and timekeeping
• Ability to follow instructions
• Good practical/manual work ethic
• Able to work as part of a team
• Health and safety awareness
• Willingness to undertake varied duties as required

Desirable

• Previous void property experience
• Previous local authority or housing maintenance experience
• Manual handling experience
• Experience supporting trades or building maintenance teams
• Experience working in empty residential properties
