Job Overview
Somerset Council is seeking an experienced Case Manager – Supported Housing to provide a high-quality housing and tenancy management service across sheltered housing schemes.
The role involves managing approximately 140–160 tenancies, supporting tenants to sustain their accommodation, promoting independence and choice, and ensuring landlord duties are delivered in line with council policies and procedures.
This is a frontline housing role involving regular home visits, tenancy support, safeguarding, risk assessments, multi-agency working and legal action where required.

This role requires at least 2 years' housing management experience supporting tenants within a local authority or similar environment.
You must also be able to carry out home visits, lone working and travel between sites.
Candidates without relevant housing management experience are unlikely to be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pre-tenancy support, property viewings, tenancy sign-ups and onboarding support
- Manage around 140–160 tenancies across sheltered housing schemes
- Conduct regular home visits and maintain ongoing tenant contact
- Provide tenancy advice and manage complex housing-related enquiries
- Record all case activity accurately on the Open Housing System
- Attend multi-agency panels and work with internal and external partners to sustain tenancies
- Lead on tenancy enforcement action where breaches occur, including injunctive or possession proceedings
- Carry out annual tenancy checks and property inspections
- Support tenants with welfare benefits, budgeting and tenancy obligations
- Complete person-centred risk assessments and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans where needed
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns in line with council procedures
- Carry out communal area inspections and support compliance and fire safety action
- Promote independence, wellbeing and use of assistive technology
- Support referrals for aids, adaptations and repairs
- Contribute to service development and maintain high standards of customer care and professionalism
Essential Experience & Skills
- At least 2 years' housing management experience supporting tenants in a local authority or similar setting
- Strong knowledge of introductory and secure tenancies
- Experience managing conflict, disputes and challenging situations
- Experience carrying out home visits and working with vulnerable tenants
- Good understanding of safeguarding, risk assessment and tenancy sustainment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload
- Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office and housing systems
Desirable
- Wider knowledge of housing law
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Housing or similar
- Evidence of continuous professional development

Sheltered and Extra Care Housing Lead
