Job Overview

Swindon Borough Council is seeking a Park Warden to support the upkeep and improvement of four flagship country parks across the borough: Coate Water, Lydiard Park, Stanton Park and Barbury Castle.

This is a hands-on outdoor role focused on keeping the parks clean, safe, presentable and attractive for visitors, while also supporting wildlife conservation and site improvement work.

The role is physically demanding and suited to someone who is reliable, self-motivated and comfortable working outdoors in all conditions.

This role requires a full driving licence and the ability to carry out physically demanding outdoor work.

You must be able to work every other weekend, late shifts, and bank holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve country park sites across the borough
  • Clean public toilets and BBQ areas
  • Empty bins and carry out litter picking duties
  • Complete statutory safety checks including play parks, dams and splash park areas
  • Carry out vegetation management including mowing and strimming
  • Engage positively with members of the public, contractors and event organisers
  • Support the safe and presentable running of the parks
  • Take part in habitat improvement and biodiversity work where required
  • Assist with volunteer sessions linked to conservation and park improvements

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Full driving licence
  • Good timekeeping and organisational skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Reasonably fit and able to carry out physically demanding outdoor work
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to deal with the public and contractors professionally
  • Willingness to work weekends and bank holidays

Additional Information

Shift Pattern:
Late shift: 10:30am – 6:30pm

Weekend Pattern:
Working every other weekend with rest days:

  • Week 1: Thursday / Friday off
  • Week 2: Saturday / Sunday off

Bank Holidays:
Expected to work bank holidays, with a day off in lieu accrued.

This is a full seasonal Park Warden role and not seasonal cover for golf or splash park facilities.
